Oso Oso
Possibly my favorite mix of all time. Künne does a great job on this one, as with most of the Hardtrancemania series. In this one especially, though, everything seems to fit just right. "Smile (Mix 1)" starts things off on a high note, with the drop of "Backfired 2000 (McLoud & E Remix)" keeping up the pace. From there, "Diving Faces (Club Mix)" serves as a calm but pounding transition in the very relaxing "Slipstream (Technoclub Mix)." Convinced he's got his audience's attention by this point, Frank unleashes the first (in my opinion) truly 'contemplative' track in "When She Left (Wavestate Remix)," with the trough coming early on in the song and then a drop later. In my opinion "Absolut Horror! (Original Version)" is a less fitting track, but it does serve a purpose in that its loud repetition essentially resets things, allowing Künne to change pace rapidly in the transition from it to "Dreaming (DJ Kalpa Remix)," which, to me, seems to accomplish similar goals as the first track, "Smile (Mix 1)." I think the horn-like sounds in both of them are meant to grab one's attention. From here, we go to what is one of my favorite tracks, "Adventures Of Dama (Nad's Lab Remix)." This track actually sounds a lot like "When She Left (Wavestate Remix)" without the buildup, but it does also have a noticeably slower part with some vocal-ish sounds which work perfectly for me, aka not too cheesy. From here, Künne returns to the more generic (but still good) "Lifesigns (Original Version)," which is more upbeat but keeps some consistency with "Dama" in the repetition of its final 2 minutes. In my opinion, "Protect Your Mind (Suspicious Remix)" is one of the weaker tracks on the mix, but its loudness, Like "Absolut Horror"'s resets things in a way, allowing "Rape (Original Mix)" to kind of signal that the end is near, which it does with its intermittent high notes that trail off quickly. From there, many might expect "Escape (Club Mix)" to be the last track, considering what its title connotes and the thunder sounds that precede the drops, but I respect Künne for not being so cliche and instead using the pounding "Enter The Darkroom (Club Mix)" to close the curtains. I have a hard time explaining why I like this song as an ending, but I do, especially the fast finish instead of an expected slow trail-off like those present in many of trance mixes.
All in all, a must have. I encourage you to check out the other Hardtrancemania's as well. I have most of them.
