Searing Punk/Grunge noise produced by underground legend Ian Burgess.

The Powers That Be were from Manchester in England, and were at the time one of only 2 bands from the UK (the other being Thee Mighty Caesars) to release a record on Amphetamine Reptile.

A keen champion of the band was BBC Radio DJ Mark Radcliffe.

When performing live they could often be found supporting the likes of Jesus Lizard, Tar, Seaweed and Alice Donut.

Later releases introduced more melody and greater dynamics but were no less noisy or raw.
